So I am actually on Day 10 of the Anabolic Diet.  I must say it’s gone relatively well.  Our first test came last weekend when St. Patrick’s Day rolled around.  It wasn’t the holiday itself, just that I had a bunch of family functions to attend.

On Saturday, (Day 5 Anabolic Diet) St Patrick’s Day, I took a drive to Wichita, KS to visit my cousin Kim who is about to have twins. If you knew my family, you would know we love to eat.  Especially this side of the family, they are phenomenal bakers.  So I was treated to a party buffet complete with cookies, candies, cake pops, etc.  It’s been awhile since I’ve visited with my cousin so I was there for about 5 hours…walking by that buffet nonstop.  In those 5 hours my food consumption consisted of several handfuls of peanuts, 2 lite beers, and a double cheeseburger…no bun.  All in all, I do believe that was a win…certainly not perfect, but I managed to come out relatively unscathed.

On Sunday, (Day 6 Anabolic Diet) Chris and I went over to my parents’ house, as it was my niece’s 18th Birthday.  It’s a tradition in our family that for every birthday my mother will fix the dinner of their choice.  So, I was staring down a buffet of Spaghetti, Garlic Bread, Salad, and assorted mixed vegetables.  Please don’t let us forget the birthday celebration, as she served an Ice Cream Cake.  My total consumption came to two bowls of salad, and a lot of water.  Not a complete victory as there were shredded carrots all over that salad that I couldn’t get around…but considering the circumstances, I will consider that one a win as well.

Overall, I have been adapting well to eating only meat, cheese, and eggs.  I did have a near breakdown yesterday…(Day 9 Anabolic Diet).  Nothing sounded good for dinner.  I didn’t want any more meat, cheese, or eggs.  I was getting really irritated with Chris for no reason, stomping around the house like a child, and cursing the diet.  As soon as my temper tantrum lasted (till about 10pm last night)…Chris got up and made a salad for both of us.  I’m better this morning…started by day off with 3 sausage patties and a string cheese.

So what have I learned?  I’m strong, mentally and physically.  I believe it’s the power of believing in yourself and having a positive support system, which can carry you through most anything.  I must thank Chris for this, for putting up with me at my worst.

So what has happened in the past week?  I have been back to the gym..3 times last week, and tonight will be our 2nd night this week.  Physically I’m making gains, especially coming back from my minor injury of straining my groin.  On the scale I’ve probably lost about 8 lbs, and maybe lost ¼ inch in some spots.  All in all, I’m happy with my progress, and super proud that Chris and I have kept to the Anabolic Diet…I would say 98%.  I’m certainly not going to beat myself up over the 2%…it’s a part of life and we all make mistakes.

I am already starting to prepare for Day 13….CHEAT DAY!  I have bought some of my groceries.  So far the only thing on the menu I know I’m preparing is mashed potatoes.

Thanks to all for the encouragement…if it wasn’t for writing these pieces and being held accountable I probably would have done a lot worse on my food consumption.  Until next week….Cheers!
